| The
Rothbury Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was established
following the extensive fires in 1968. At that time, the
Brigade area consisted of large land holdings numbering
about fifteen in total. The families that owned the land
were available, in a loosely knit fashion, at all times to
fight fires. Formal training and equipment were
non-existant.
Since
that time there have been a proliferation of
subdivisions, with associated houses tourist
accommodation and small vineyards. The current Brigade
members all have regular jobs, and juggle work, family,
and bushfire requirements as best they can.
